Seymour Stein Dies: Co-Founder of Sire Records and Champion of Music Legends Passes Away at 80

Seymour Stein, the co-founder and chairman of Sire Records, passed away on Sunday at the age of 80.

His record label launched the careers of numerous artists, including Madonna, the Ramones and the Talking Heads. Stein battled cancer for an extended period before passing away in Los Angeles, confirmed a spokesperson to Variety.

The New York Times also received confirmation from his daughter about the cause of his death. Over the span of his 50-year career, Stein worked with a host of well-known artists, such as Brian Wilson, Lou Reed, K.D. Lang, and Seal. Additionally, bands like the Cure, Depeche Mode, the Pretenders, and the Replacements released their music through Sire Records, according to Variety.
