Millions Of Adults Have Maths Skills Of A Nine Year-Old, The worrying report claimed that more than eight million adults are considered to lack even basic numeracy.

Adults with poor skills in English and maths were yesterday urged to make the most of free Government help as the survey revealed Britain’s skills blackspots.

The Skills for Life survey, which examined basic abilities among 16 to 65-year-olds across England, found that in some areas up to a quarter of adults have the numeracy skills of a seven to nine-year-old or below.

The study’s headline findings published last year showed many adults have maths and English skills similar to those expected of primary school children.

The proportion of adults whose maths skills are only those of a seven to nine-year-old has increased in 2003 to 24 per cent last year.
