Michael C. Hall, Add another star-driven play to Broadway’s 2013-14 slate, with Toni Collette, Michael C. Hall, Marisa Tomei and Tracy Letts tapped to star in a Rialto staging of Will Eno’s “The Realistic Joneses,” gearing up for a February start.
The Sam Gold-directed play, which had a well-reviewed world premiere at Yale Repertory Theater in 2012, joins a competitive season slate of plays headlined by notable stars. The fall lineup is particularly crowded, with titles including Daniel Craig-Rachel Weisz starrer “Betrayal,” Zachary Quinto outing “The Glass Menagerie,” Billy Crystal vehicle “700 Sundays” and Ethan Hawke topliner “Macbeth,” plus Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart appearing in rep in plays by Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter. Spring outings include Denzel Washington in “A Raisin in the Sun” and Debra Messing starring in “Outside Mullingar,” plus the Bryan Cranston-led “All the Way,” also angling for a venue.
Collette, currently toplining CBS skein “Hostages,” hasn’t been on the Main Stem since the 2000 run of Michael John LaChiusa’s “The Wild Party,” while Hall, who recently wrapped eight seasons on Showtime series “Dexter,” has had stints in “Chicago” (in 2002) and “Cabaret.” Tomei was last on Broadway in the 2008 revival of “Top Girls,” and Letts, the “August: Osage County” scribe who is also an actor, snagged a Tony last season for his performance in “Who’s Afraid of Viriginia Woolf?”
Letts is the only actor to remain with the show after originating his role at Yale Rep. Parker Posey, Johanna Day and Glenn Fitzgerald co-starred in that production, also helmed by Gold.
