Man Steals $376K Of Toner, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., today announced the conviction of ADRIAN RODRIGUEZ, 39, for stealing more than $376,000 worth of copy machine toner while he was employed by the law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. RODRIGUEZ pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Second Degree. He is expected to be sentenced on May 21, 2013.
“Theft is theft, whether of cash or office supplies,” said District Attorney Vance. “In this case, the defendant profited from stealing and reselling hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of copy machine toner. Cases like this one, involving employee abuse, underscore the importance of reviewing company records in the effort to prevent employee theft.”
As admitted in his guilty plea and according to statements made on the record in court, RODRIGUEZ worked in the law firm’s duplicating department for approximately 10 years. Copy machines and toner were supplied to the firm through its contracts with Konica Minolta Business Solutions and Ricoh U.S.A. Between October 1, 2010, and December 13, 2012, RODRIGUEZ ordered more than $376,000 worth of toner from the vendors, which greatly exceeded that of the law firm’s actual usage. He then resold the black ink toner for $10 per box, and the color ink toner for $15 per box.
