Les Mis Premiere

Les Mis Premiere, TS-EX- stellar cast will be put to the test as this movie is set to become the first musical ever to use live singing for each take, instead of a pre-recorded version. ANNE Hathaway is already odds-on favourite for the Oscar for best supporting actress this year for her scene-stealing performance as Les Miserables’ tragic Fantine. But the 30-year-old beauty was leaving nothing to chance at the film’s London premiere.

Especially after Tom Hooper’s groundbreaking adaptation of the popular stage musical failed to get a nod from New York Film Critics Awards were announced earlier this week.

Hathaway, a red carpet pro, wore an eye-catching pearl Givenchy gown that cheekily scooped to the small of her back at the Leicester Square premiere last night.

But she was more coy with her on-the-record comments.

“It’s flattering. I’d be lying if I didn’t say it doesn’t thrill me that people are predicting this,” she told Entertainment tonight.

“However, I’ve also have been doing this long enough to know that nothing’s set in stone…So, I’m just really enjoying people’s reaction to the film. It’s so gratifying to have tried something new…and to hear that people are responding to it.”

The Devil Wears Prada actress lost more than 11kg for her leading role as Fantine in the screen adaptation.

Hugh Jackman, who stars alongside Hathaway, also brought his star presence to the red carpet.

Jackman takes on the role of Jean Valjean and admits he had to go to extreme measures to look like a starving prisoner at the beginning of the movie before piling the kilos back on as his character changes.

“I had to lose a lot of weight, so I went on a very strict diet. I even went without water for 36 hours before I filmed the opening scene. And then after that, I put on weight. I was training every day”, the Aussie actor tells BANG Showbiz at the premiere.

Co-stars Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Samantha Barks also turned out in style to lend muscle to Les Miserables’ building Oscar campaign ahead of the early nomination announcement on January 10.

Les Miserables is released in Australia on 26 December.
