Gosport Car Accident

Gosport Car Accident, Two teenage girls killed in a car crash at the weekend ‘lived their lives to the full’, their former school has said.

Jasmine Allsop, 14, and Olivia Lewry, 16, were hit by a green Honda Civic early on Sunday morning as they walked home from a party in Gosport, Hampshire.

Head teacher Richard Kelly, from Brune Park Community School, said both girls were ‘independent, strong-minded individuals who lived their lives to the full, with confidence and a sense of humour and a sense of fun’.

He added: ‘We will miss them both immensely and the unique talents which they displayed.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this dreadful time.’

Jasmine was still a pupil at the school but Olivia had left in the summer to start a vocational qualification at college.

The younger girl died at the scene while her friend was later pronounced dead at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

Di Lloyd, principal of St Vincent College, where Olivia had just started her course, said: ‘We are shocked. Some students were particularly close to her – she was very local to the college.

‘We will be getting together with the students who knew her best and ask for the best type of tribute to her.’

Hampshire police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash, near the junction of Ann’s Hill Road and Brougham Street, to get in touch.

Detective Superintendent Dick Pearson called the accident ‘extremely tragic’.

He added: ‘I currently have a team of detectives and other officers, including expert road collision investigators, working on this case to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these two teenage girls.’

A 20-year-old man remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Tributes have been paid to both girls on social networking sites and flowers have been placed at the scene of the crash.

One friend tweeted: ‘RIP Jasmine and Olivia, you’ll be missed and heaven has gained two angels. Thoughts are with your families.’
