Gareth Bale Injured

August 16, 2013 by

Gareth Bale Injured, Andre Villas-Boas is preparing for life without Gareth Bale after ruling him out of their opening three fixtures.

The PFA player and Young Player of the Year is on the verge of sealing a world-record £85million move to Real Madrid before the transfer window closes on September 2.

Villas-Boas has admitted that Bale will not be fit to face Crystal Palace on Sunday and will also miss the Europa League trip to Dinamo Tbilisi and the following game against Swansea, though he did show up to training on Friday morning.

The Spurs manager said: ‘Pre-season has gone by without him being involved so for Palace, Tbilisi and Swansea he will not threaten to come back.

‘Ideally we would like the player to continue to be at Tottenham – this is where the future is for him and for us – but we are are that Real Madrid are interested. It doesn’t mean we are willing to negotiate.

‘If you take Messi or Ronaldo out of Barcelona or Real Madrid and look how many points their teams would have.

‘When a player performs at this level the speculation is going to arrive linking him to other clubs with other ambitions.

‘This is something we can’t avoid for any of the players this season. It has been happening with Liverpool, it has been happening with Rooney at Manchester United for a different reason.

‘We can understand and we can speak to the players regarding their ambitions and we can explain to them that at certain stages players are under contract and have the responsibility towards their clubs.

‘We as club, or the chairman – as the person who controls the club- has to defend their own interest.’

‘I am in contact with the chairman and whatever the decision that we take – which we have already taken from last season – we have explained to the clubs that the player is our player.’

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has already held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez about Bale’s future.

The forward, who scored 21 goals in the Premier League last season, is determined to push through the move before the transfer window.

Bale has played just 45 minutes of Tottenham’s pre-season programme because of injury and he has yet to talk publicly about his future.

Villas-Boas added: ‘Nobody knows his mental state because he doesn’t speak. The only thing that we are able to see or you are able to see is the player arriving in and out of the training ground.

‘He is very far off regarding his fitness compared to others so it will take time to bring him back to the level of others after six weeks. But the player is a super athlete.’
