Floyd Mayweather Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s advisor Thursday described a British report that Mayweather will fight England’s Amir Khan on May 3 in Las Vegas as “rumors.”

“Floyd just fought two weeks ago,” Mayweather advisor Leonard Ellerbe told The Times. “Can’t he take a vacation before someone anoints the next guy?

“I have no idea” where this is coming from, Ellerbe said. “We hear rumors all the time. Who wouldn’t want to fight Floyd Mayweather? Everybody wants to be in the money pot.”

Mayweather (45-0) on Sept. 14 overwhelmed Mexico’s star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez by a majority decision at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

London’s Daily Mail website reported Thursday “the official announcement will be made in the next few days,” for Mayweather-Khan and added the fight would be at MGM Grand, and that Khan has backed out of a scheduled Dec. 7 fight against world welterweight champion Devon Alexander in New York.

The story said Khan will remain in training with Bay Area trainer Virgil Hunter for seven months and the bout is expected to be a “$200-million blockbuster.”

Khan promoter Richard Schaefer, who has assisted in the promotion of all of Mayweather’s fights since 2007, said in an email to The Times: “Nothing is going on. Nothing to talk about. Everybody is calling me…I have no news.”

The 26-year-old Khan (28-3, 19 knockouts) has lost two of his last four fights (against Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia), returning to overwhelm Norwalk’s Carlos Molina on Dec. 15 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, and rally from a fourth-round knockdown to beat Coachella Valley’s Julio Diaz by decision in April in England.

The unbeaten world light-welterweight champion Garcia, who impressively beat hard-punching Lucas Matthysse by decision on the Mayweather-Alvarez card, is viewed by some as the most deserving next Mayweather opponent.
