Drame De Lampedusa, International Party Libyan coast, a clandestine boat load of 450 to 500 Eritrean migrants mostly sank after an accidental fire Thursday at dawn.
Events Lampedusa “tragically highlight the need for a global, European immigration policy supportive and balanced control of external borders constituting one element of this policy,” said Saturday Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said in a statement.
Expressing deep sorrow, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister said that the Union should “prevent the recurrence of such tragedies including the fight more strongly against criminal networks that exploit the plight of migrants in developing programs to improve the conditions in regions of origin, and strengthening its dialogue and cooperation with countries of origin and transit. “
