Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Campbell River

May 9, 2013 by

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Campbell River, Campbell River is playing host to film crews shooting the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The original film was released in 1968 and the franchise was rebooted with the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011.

“Our hope is that this one is as successful as its predecessors and gets as much air time, because we’ll definitely be featured in it,” said North Island Film Commissioner Joan Miller.

“I can’t, I’m not going to pinpoint the locations, but I will say the reasons they’re filming here is because of our wonderful forests and the landscape that we have in our community,” she explained. “Our community matched the creative content of the film.”

Miller said she has to give credit where it’s due, commending the groups who steward our local environment for being so accommodating.

“We landed this because of the kind of cooperation that we got from the caretakers of our forests. They realize that living in this community, we all have to cooperate… so they’ve made it as easy as possible,” Miller said. “Everyone looks at all our industries as a piece of our economy and we need to work collaboratively together… and we did.”

The producers are being very tight-lipped about the new movie, but it is known that one of the stars is Gary Oldman.

“Gary Oldman has been to Campbell River before. The first project I ever worked on was the Scarlet Letter, and he played the priest in the Scarlet Letter,” said Miller. “He was here, and he knows our forests! They were out filming in Sayward and he swam nkd in the Oyster River. He was one of our skinny-dippers.”

Other members of the cast include Keri Russell, Jason Clarke of Zero Dark Thirty, and Andy Serkis, most famous for his CGI-assisted performance as Gollum in Lord of the Rings.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is due to be released in 2014.

A commercial is also being filmed in Campbell River on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 March, while the new Godzilla movie is being shot in downtown Nanaimo.
