Cyber Monday Discounts

Cyber Monday isn’t a dirty celebration as the name implies, though it is an excellent opportunity to get some good deals. The electronic answer to Black Friday, Cyber Monday falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving, offering holiday shoppers an avenue to buy products without having to fruitlessly brave the jam-packed malls nationwide. All you need is your computer, an Internet connection and some cash — and the know-how to sniff out a good deal when you see one, of course.
While there’s nothing I can do to help you in the funds department, I’ve got you covered in terms of finding the right deals for movie-related goodies. There’s no shortage of excellent shopping opportunities today, but if I was a spending man — which I’m not, but feel free to get me a gift — I’d look into the following Cyber Monday deals.
The Best Buy Ever:
As a movie news establishment, we here at Movies Blog are always looking for good deals on DVD and Blu-ray purchases. For my money, it’s hard to find a better Blu-ray deal than the one going on over at Best Buy, where you can purchase horror classics like “Children of the Corn” and “Hellraiser” on Blu-ray for as little as $6.99 a pop. Even newer movies like “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” are being offered for $9.99. If I didn’t already own “Ronin” in at least two incarnations, I’d be all over the $7.99 deal for that film.
But as they say in commercials, this deal won’t last forever — not only is the reduced pricing finished once Cyber Monday ends, but these Blu-rays are selling out quick. “Live Free or Die Hard” is already gone, and people didn’t even like that movie all that much. If you’re hoping to catch a good deal, you’ll want to head over to Best Buy’s online destination as quick as you can.
Booking Gifts:
As nice as it is to watch movies all day long, it can be equally pleasant to cozy into your favorite chair with a nice book, particularly during the holiday season. There are plenty of deals for the reading-friendly crowd online today, with some particularly great opportunities over at Books A Million where you can purchase a copy of “The Da Vinci Code” for $4.97, which is 82% off of standard retailer price. They also have discounts on movie related books like “The Blind Side” with 30% off and “The Lovely Bones” with 32% off
.
Other online retailers have some solid deals as well, such as Amazon’s 4-for-3 Book Store where you can get the first four “Harry Potter” novels for the price of three. Not too shabby — for an establishment run by Muggles, that is. Burn!
Han’s Necklace Shot First:
Star Wars fans, let’s get one thing straight — Han Solo shot first and arguments to the contrary are hereby ignored. One thing I won’t argue with, however, is the opportunity to wear a miniature version of Han’s DL-44 blaster pistol around my neck.
That opportunity was always available at ThinkGeek, but the blaster pendant is currently on clearance for $14.99, 70% down from its original price. If you buy two for $29.98, you won’t have to pay a cent for shipping — Think Geek is waiving shipping costs for all purchases over $25 today — so you and your loved one can shoot your blaster necklaces at each other all the live long day. Or just argue about who shot who first. However you do.
Cylon Monday:
When I was a kid, the only holiday presents I truly craved were action figures — aside from movies, television box sets, comic books and video games, of course. But not much has changed, and a solid action figure remains my poison of choice. Luckily, Big Bad Toy Store has plenty of deals to satisfy my toy tooth, with the most eye-catching deals surrounding one of my favorite TV shows of all time: “Battlestar Galactica.”
The Caprica Six bust has been knocked down from $49.99 to $9.00, Sam Anders is on sale for $3.99 as opposed to $15.99 and the Helo and Tyrol minimates two pack is on sale for $4.49. I could go for all three purchases for less than $20 — that’s a pretty good frakkin’ deal if you ask me.
Twilight Tunes:
With “New Moon” tearing up box office records left and right, it’s clearly a good season to buy into the craze. Then again, everybody is fairly familiar with both the novel series and the movies at this point. What people might be less familiar with, however, is the soundtrack from the film — and if you’re a diamond-studded vampire looking to woo your lady love with some sweet, sweet music like I am, then Amazon has the deal for you.
The online retailer is offering 47% off on the “Twilight” soundtrack and the “New Moon” soundtrack, with the two available for a combined total of $19.98. Even if your masculinity is crying out against such a purchase, consider the fact that your girlfriends will love you for it — except that they’ll be swooning to thoughts of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner instead of you, most likely. Alright, maybe this isn’t the best holiday purchase out there.
