The construction work at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City has been halted temporarily after a tragic incident on Monday, which led to the death of two construction workers who got trapped in a trench.

The airport’s operator, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has issued a statement to Fox News Digital expressing its commitment to a thorough investigation and cooperation with all other investigative agencies. According to the statement, the workers were relocating utility lines to support the JFK redevelopment project’s energy needs when the incident occurred.

The Port Authority has ordered a temporary safety standdown until safety reviews have been conducted. The authorities received a report of the incident at around 11 a.m. on Monday, which stated that two workers were trapped under construction rubble at JFK International Airport.
