CEO Gives Staff $3.6M Bonus, Lord Simon Wolfson (maybe the greatest name ever), CEO of Next, the U.K.’s largest department store chain, has awarded his entire annual bonus – $3.6 million – to his employees. A spokesman for Next said, “It’s the first time that any chief executive has ever done anything like this.
All our staff of 19,400 will share in it as a cash bonus. It works out to about 1 percent of their basic salary.” When asked to comment, our imagination’s version of every U.S. CEO laughed uproariously, twiddled his moustache and said, “Preposterous!” before pulling a lever and dropping us down a trapdoor in his lavishly appointed office.
