Disney CEO Calls Florida Governor ‘Anti-Business’ in Ongoing Feud

In the ongoing feud between Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, and Walt Disney World’s CEO, Bob Iger, the latter has publicly criticized the former for being detrimental to both businesses and the state of Florida.

The conflict started when Disney World spoke out against a controversial Florida law limiting discussions on gender identity and sexuality in classrooms, following pressure from its employees.

In response, DeSantis and his Republican allies targeted the resort, with the governor successfully lobbying for the creation of a new oversight board to govern the tax district managing the theme park complex.

This move has curtailed Disney World’s autonomy, which had been in place for over 50 years.

Beloved Surfing Therapy Dog Ricochet Passes Away in Southern California

Ricochet, a beloved Golden Retriever who became a therapy dog by surfing, has passed away in Southern California. For over a decade, the 15-year-old dog brought therapy to numerous veterans and children by surfing in the waves off San Diego, as reported by her owner, Judy Fridono.

Last August, the dog was diagnosed with liver cancer, which led to her passing on Friday.

Initially trained as a service animal, Ricochet was more interested in chasing birds than helping with household tasks, as mentioned by Fridono.

However, in 2009, Ricochet discovered her true purpose when she rode a surfboard with quadriplegic surfer Patrick Ivison. The viral video of their ride amassed more than six million views.

Fridono recalled in a 2012 interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, “That day she hopped on the board with Patrick, she was reborn. She kept running back to the water with her tail wagging like she could finally tell me, ‘This is what I want to do.'”

Former US President Donald Trump is meeting with several attorneys at Trump Tower in New York as he prepares to face criminal charges Tuesday.

Trump is facing criminal charges related to paying pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels – ahead of the 2016 US presidential elections – so that she would remain silent about an alleged sexual relationship she had with the former president.

The city is witnessing tight security measures, as the New York authorities expect demonstrations that supporters and opponents of Trump may organize.

The 76-year-old former US president insists on denying any wrongdoing.

Thus, Trump is the first US president – whether in service or his term has expired – to face criminal charges in US history.

Student Loan Forgiveness 2023: Education Department Can Move Forward with $6 Billion in Student Loan Discharges

April 3, 2023 by · Comments Off on Student Loan Forgiveness 2023: Education Department Can Move Forward with $6 Billion in Student Loan Discharges

A federal appeals court has cleared the way for the Biden administration to move forward with student loan forgiveness and other debt relief, as part of a settlement to resolve long-standing Borrower Defense to Repayment claims. The settlement, which was approved last fall, would provide $6 billion in student loan discharges to almost a quarter of a million borrowers who attended several dozen institutions, mainly for-profit schools, listed in the agreement.

The settlement agreement had been challenged by three schools listed in the agreement appendix – American National University, Everglades College, Inc., and Lincoln Educational Services – who sought to block the relief. They claimed that the agreement and the resolution process were unfair and that being listed in the settlement agreement was damaging to their reputations.

However, a federal district court ruled in February that the settlement relief could proceed, allowing the Biden administration to move forward with implementing the program. The Borrower Defense program provides federal student loan discharges and other debt relief for borrowers who were misled by their schools through false promises or misrepresentations about their programs.

According to an unnamed senior manager at UBS, the bank resulting from the UBS acquisition of Credit Suisse is preparing to reduce its workforce by 20-30%, as reported by Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger on Sunday.

The acquisition, which was orchestrated by the Swiss government, central bank, and market regulator to prevent a financial crisis in the country, saw UBS purchase Credit Suisse for 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.3 billion).

However, concerns have been raised about the size of the new bank, which now has assets of $1.6 trillion and more than 120,000 employees worldwide. The report from Tages-Anzeiger suggested that the bank may cut around 11,000 jobs within Switzerland.
