Boston Explosions

Boston Explosions, US-based Kiwi running star Nick Willis says he and his wife are shocked after explosions rocked the Boston Marathon, having been in the same spot just 24 hours earlier.
Two explosions near the finish line of the race reportedly killed three people and injured at least another 23.
Willis, a silver medallist at the Biejing Olympics, flew out of Boston just an hour before the two blasts, having won the street mile race yesterday – which acts as a curtainraiser to the marathon and finishes in the same place.
“My wife was sitting in those same stands while my race was going on. Who knows if the devices were placed then?” he told Fairfax New Zealand from the US.
The couple had been in the area again today, not long before the explosions.
“It’s such a huge area where the whole city and race [finish] is set around. All of the hotels have an indoor mall that sets them all together. There’s a huge convention centre. We had been walking around that area.
“We flew out only a couple of hours before the actual explosions. We were still in Boston when the actual elite runners finished the race.”
Another Kiwi Olympian, Kimberly Smith, also ran in Boston yesterday, winning an international 5km race.
Smith confirmed that she had left Boston this morning and returned to her US base in Rhode Island.
