Aluminum Christmas Tree

December 23, 2013 by

Aluminum Christmas Tree, Evergleam aluminum Christmas trees are getting new respect, despite not being produced since the 1970s.

For some people, the aluminum trees bring back vivid memories. “I remember as a child sitting in a chair and watching that color wheel hit that silver tree and I just thought it was the most beautiful sight in the world,” said Lisa Genske of Manitowoc, Wis., who owns six of the trees.

Aluminum Speciality Company in Manitowoc started making them in 1959, selling over a million of the Evergleam trees. Jerry Waak was the top salesman.

“It’s down to people wanting something new to decorate their house,” Waak said. “And that’s where the aluminum tree came in. It fit their purpose very very well.”

The company stopped making the eye-catching trees in the early 1970s when sales dropped off. But in the last decade, they’ve become cool again — fetching sometimes $1,000 or more on ebay.
