Afghan Doctors Remove Extra Head

Afghan Doctors Remove Extra Head, Surgeons in Afghanistan have carried out a rescue operation on a baby born with an extra head. The girl – the name Asree Gul (new flower) and one of a pair of twins – was admitted to a hospital in the eastern city of Jalalabad with an extra head attached to your scalp, the chief surgeon Mojadidi Obaid Ahmad told AFP.
“Your mother gave birth to twins, two girls. A girl was in good health, but the other had an abnormality. Had an extra head attached to his head,” he told AFP Mojadidi.
“We split the extra head of his body,” he said, a week after the operation, which he described as the most sophisticated ever conducted in the impoverished city.

He said, however, that the baby was not in good condition after the operation.
Nematullah, the child’s father who like many Afghans uses only one name, said he had not expected her baby to survive the operation.
“The doctors saved his life. I thank you,” the emotional father told AFP.
Afghanistan, plagued with over 30 years of war and is fighting a Taliban insurgency decade, lacks modern health care.
But the facilities have improved with billions of dollars pumped into the international community since the US-led invasion toppled the Taliban regime in 2001.
