2012 Average Christmas Spending In Canada

December 22, 2012 by

2012 Average Christmas Spending In Canada, The average British Columbian plans to spend $981 on Christmas shopping. That’s more than the average Canadian, who plans to spend about $90 less, according to a new CIBC survey. Most British Columbians – two-thirds – have left their shopping to the last minute, with gifts still on their “to-buy” list, the survey found. Fourteen per cent of Canadians said this past Tuesday that they hadn’t even started their shopping, while one-fifth of Canadians say they will likely blow their budget.

CIBC offered a few tips to help people stay within their budget, including tracking your debit and credit purchases, having a plan in place to repay credit card purchases, considering using loyalty rewards to buy gifts, and keeping up monthly savings even during Christmas. The survey was done on the phone, with 932 Canadians between Dec. 13 and 17. A sample of this size has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 per cent, 19 times out of 20, CIBC said.
