Yahoo spokeswoman Kryss Guntrum eWEEK given no specific reason for the failure.
For an indefinite period, the Yahoo home page simply displayed a text “Server Hang” message in the browser. Other features of Yahoo, including Yahoo Mail, Calendar, Sports, News and Finance, appeared not to be affected by the outage.
A number of people on sites like Mashable and SearchEngineLand comment on the failure.
A staff member of Yahoo tweeted, somewhat ironically: “As some of you have noticed, Yahoo.com was down for a bit this afternoon we are back and running sorry for the interruption.”
Yahoo quickly responded .
“For a short period this afternoon, Yahoo.com was inaccessible to some users. We have identified the problem and are working to correct it immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users may have been affected, “said Guntrum e-mail.
When the site came back, some users have reported that for a time local news, they have been accustomed to see on the home page of Yahoo news was another city, and the normal rotation of 32 top news stories has been narrowed to four.
Only a few weeks ago, Yahoo introduced a line of new data processing center, located near Niagara Falls, NY Yahoo would not say if the failure had nothing to do with the new data center.
