World Netball Championships 2011, Lights turned down, the Singapore Indoor Stadium, finally come alive at 5 pm yesterday, as the World Championships in 2011 Netball Mission Foods warned a kaleidoscope of drums, lion dancers, freestyle and other artists.
Witnessed by some 4328 spectators and the guest of honor President SR Nathan, I was pleasantly surprised when the organizers took a cake to celebrate his birthday 87, the festival marked the beginning of the tournament in eight days (July 3 to 10). The performances were greeted by shouts and whistles from the crowd lapped each item during the 90-minute show, produced by creative director Mark Richmond.
But the strongest applause was reserved for Captain Jean Ng Singapore, who made a surprise appearance during the opening ceremony, joining Julia Abueva artist in a segment that shows basketball and teamwork.
The screams continued as the 16 teams entered the stadium with the team of 12 members of Singapore in the rear of the procession.
Ms Jessica Tan, president of the local organizing committee was delighted to welcome the competition back to Singapore after 28 years.
“It is now more than 20 years since Singapore hosted the World Championships in 1983. This is not only an opportunity for Singapore to extend our hospitality to everyone, it will be important to allow us to witness the world’s best nations and basketball players. I am very pleased that our nations netball IFNA and have allowed us to make this a reality. ” Said in her speech.
Top of International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) president Molly Rhone: “Singapore is the setting for the World Netball Championships We have heard the popular edict, it is better the second time and by all accounts it is clear to me that Singapore will do that.”
“Why the World Championships of 13 Netball important? From the perspective of IFNA, they are an opportunity to show netball and improve the development of the sport.”
“For the spectators and fans watching this on television, they are witnesses of their favorite teams in action.”
