World Financial Center Evacuation, A fake grenade mounted on a plaque that said “Complaint Department: Pull Pin” sent employees of Bank of America Corp.’s Merrill Lynch and Nomura Holdings Inc. (8604) at 2 World Financial Center into the street as police examined the suspicious package.

Police, who have declared the item inert, evacuated the complex near the former site of the World Trade Center towers as they evaluated the item, following an alert from security there, a police spokeswoman said today.

T.J. Crawford, a spokesman for Charlotte, North Carolina- based Bank of America, said Merrill employees exited the building. A Nomura employee with direct knowledge of the situation said the bank’s workers also evacuated.
