Woman Elephant ZooWoman Elephant Zoo, A woman traipsed through ditches and over fences to climb into an elephant enclosure at Los Angeles Zoo so she could pet the animals. Horrified visitors looked on as the unidentified woman managed to get into the elephant pen.

As she walked right up to the three adult elephants, worried onlookers shouted at her to leave the enclosure before she was hurt. Daring: A woman managed to climb into the elephant enclosure and walked right up to the animals to pet them at the Los Angeles Zoo

Staff at the popular zoo also urged her to get out, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Eventually, after spending five minutes with the animals, the woman left voluntarily, climbing out the same way she got in.

The incident was captured on video on the mobile phone of Branden Adams who was visiting the zoo.

‘She went in to kind of check the elephants out,’ Branden told the LA Times.

‘She comes out and she says, ‘I’m going to go pet the elephants now.’ And she goes and she started touching the elephants and seeing what they were doing.’

The woman was taken into police custody where she revealed she was suffering from mental problems, according to the report.

She admitted that she had not taken her medications, authorities told the LA Times.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Zoo officials told the LA Times that they felt the barriers surrounding the recently extended elephant exhibit were sufficient to protect the animals and visitors.
