Woman dies at Burning Man, A woman died at the annual Burning Man gathering early Thursday morning after reportedly falling under a bus carrying participants, according to authorities and festival organizers.

According to Pershing County authorities, the woman was identified as 29-year-old Alicia Louise Cipicchio of Jackson, Wyoming. She died after falling under a large vehicle at the Burning Man event.

In a statement released by email Friday, Burning Man co-founder Marian Goodell called the death “a terrible accident.”

“This is a terrible accident,” said Burning Man co-founder Marian Goodell. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and campmates. Black Rock Rangers and Emergency Services Department staff are providing support to those affected.”

The incident remained under investigation, according to the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office.

The annual weeklong rave that draws thousands of free-thinkers to a remote spot in the Nevada desert had already gotten off to a shaky start after heavy rains turned the playa on Black Rock into a muddy mess.
