Witnesses: Deadly Blast Strikes Demonstration In Kabul, An explosion hit a march rally in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Saturday, causing multiple casualties, according to officials and witnesses.
The protesters were ethnic Hazaras requiring a major regional power line power is routed through their impoverished home province. Most Hazaras are Shiite Muslims, but the majority of Afghans are Sunni.
Sediq Sediqqi, Interior Ministry spokesman, said police were working to confirm how many explosions had happened and how many people were killed and wounded.
“I still can not identify what kind of explosion it was or how many people have been affected,” he said. “We are now in a very difficult situation.”
