Winslet Hanna TheWinslet Hanna The, British series Downton Abbey dominated the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jane Lynch Glee, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night.

ITV period drama picked up a number of awards in the miniseries and movie category, including the address of a miniseries or TV movie, while the creator Julian Fellowes won for Best Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special.

Although Maggie Smith was not present to collect her award, which took the Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, while the series also won the prestigious Best Miniseries or Motion Picture award.

Other winners of the night included fellow British actress Kate Winslet, who picked up the Best Actress Emmy for her role in the success of HBO Mildred Pierce, while her co-star Guy Pierce was honored in the supporting actor in a miniseries or movie category.

American Family also clean modern series on the night of the awards, while the red carpet hosted a series of stars, including award-winning Creative Arts Emmys, Gwyneth Paltrow.
