Whyte ‘will Kill Rangers Rather Than Sell’

March 29, 2012 by staff

Whyte ‘will Kill Rangers Rather Than Sell’, Rangers owner Craig Whyte has said he would rather see the club go into liquidation than sell to Paul Murray, according to the Daily Record. The paper claims that Whyte – who has run the venerable club into administration with debts of around £75 million since taking over last year – told administrators that he will use his remaining powers to veto any offer made for his shares by Murray’s Blue Knights consortium.

Murray had been on the Rangers board until the takeover last year, and had strongly opposed Whyte’s purchase of the club. Whyte retaliated by having him thrown off the board, and it’s clear that the bad blood between the pair is as strong as ever.

“I’ve spoken to the administrators about this today and been told by them that Whyte is not prepared under any circumstances to sell his shares to my consortium,” Murray told the paper, adding that legal action will now commence to force Whyte to sell.

The Daily Mirror leads its back page on the news that Stuart Pearce is to manage England at Euro 2012 after he began stepping up preparations for the tournament.
