Whitey BulgerWhitey Bulger, In the race for 17 years, the defendant Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger and his girlfriend were caught eventually in California by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday. They were arrested without incident at a residence in Santa Monica, the FBI said in a statement a few days after the agency has renewed its public campaign for the capture of Bulger and his 60-year-old girlfriend Catherine Greig.

The fugitive former 81-year-old has been wanted for 19 counts of murder in 1970 and 1980, drug trafficking, extortion, money laundering and conspiracy. He is the older brother of William “Billy” Bulger, a former president of the Massachusetts State Senate.

“Advertising recently produced a tip that led agents to Santa Monica, where both Bulger and Greig in a residence,” said Boston FBI special agent in charge of Richard DesLauries in a statement.

A $ 2 million reward offered for information leading to the arrest and Bulger and 100000 for more information on the whereabouts of Greig. He was placed in ten FBI most wanted list in 1999 and was accused in 1997 of harboring a fugitive.

Bulger says he is an avid reader and history buff who likes long walks on the beach, has been featured on the television show “America’s Most Wanted” more than a dozen times between 1995 and 2010.
