White Christmas Movie

White Christmas Movie, The Friends of the Fox could just as easily be called the Friends of Movie Lovers. The organization that supports the Bob Hope Theatre screens classic films, not as a money-raiser, but to give folks a chance to enjoy an affordable event in the theater that has been refurbished to its original 1930s glory.
There’s nothing better than seeing Gene Kelly sing in the rain on the big screen, or catching glimpses of 1940s Stockton in that manner in “All the King’s Men.” The Friends of the Fox has outdone itself, though, by bringing “White Christmas” to the Bob Hope Theatre on Sunday.
The group has traditionally skipped showing a December film, but after much prodding from this corner, decided to find an open date this month and show the 1954 film that stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen and Rosemary Clooney.
Seeing those four on the big screen in those red silk outfits with white fur has long been atop of my wish list.
Christmas is my favorite time of year, and “White Christmas” is my all-time favorite Christmas movie.
I remember getting to stay up late as a kid when it was shown on “Saturday Night at the Movies.” When I was in high school a friend and I would comb through TV Guide and call each other to make sure we had all the times and dates down when it would air.
I once tape-recorded the film from television, and when my blue parakeet, Vida, and I drove home from Long Beach State for Christmas vacation, we listened to the audio of the movie and the miles on Interstate 5 just sailed by.
A few years later, my younger brother and I stayed up on Christmas Eve because “White Christmas” was going to be on at 1 a.m. Everyone else had gone to bed and we weren’t sure we could stay up that late, so we played Monopoly until the movie began. That was the night we turned Monopoly into the game you won by becoming Potter – the richest man in town in our other Christmas favorite, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
