What Women Really Want In Relationships, THE fling between TV host Caroline Flack and One Direction star Harry Styles has divided opinion.
The 32-year-old Xtra Factor presenter has been the target of abuse and even death threats over her relationship with singer Harry, 17. Others, however, are full of admiration, applauding a woman prepared to ignore the critics and do what men have done for years – date a much younger partner. And Caroline is certainly not alone in being a so-called cougar.
According to a recent survey, more than 50 per cent of British women have dated a toyboy at some point.
And about 70 per cent said they would consider a relationship with a younger man, while 12 per cent actively seek out toyboys.Gloucester is the cougar capital of the UK but Aberdeen and Glasgow are second and third, with 62 per cent and 61 per cent having dated a toyboy.
Celebrities including 53-year old Madonna and actress Demi Moore, who is nearly 50, have made it acceptable to go out with younger men, while Courteney Cox’s smash-hit TV show Cougar Town has even made it trendy.
But can a relationship with a much younger man really last the full distance? We spoke to three real-life cougars.
