What To Put In A Bird Feeder

October 29, 2011 by staff

What To Put In A Bird Feeder, If you have a bird feeder, you may have noticed your feathered friends are MIA, but we are told not to worry. The Missouri Department of Conservation says this is normal, because the fall has been warmer than normal and the birds are relying more on the grains of the fields instead of their food a little later this year.

When we see our first snow or frost continues, you see the difference.

“When that (snow / ice) goes all natural food sources are gone, then come back when they know there is food in our backyard,” said Brandon Pope specialist. “First frost coming through they return to our feeders.”

Some food sources for birds at this time include ragweed, a common allergen, and the thistle and cone flowers
