Whale Hits Boat
July 22, 2010 by staff
It was a normal day for the husband and wife sailing instructors and Werner Ralph Mothes Paloma. They had carried out his yacht in the waters off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, when suddenly it happened.
A 40-ton Southern Right whales breached the surface at the exit of the port side of the boat. The impressive overview would have been nice, but unfortunately before the whale could splash in the water, practically collapsed on the boat to sail.
The image of the whale nearly vertical dwarfing the boat is one of the most viewed photos in the web today. The whale hits boat picture below. It’s no Photoshop trick either. Mothes appeared on The Today Show this morning, and this is what he had to say about the incident:
“Suddenly I saw this huge monster way to get out of the water on my port side … just happened in an instant. It was pretty scary.”
Luckily nobody was hurt, but the ship seemed to buckle under the enormous weight of the animal. PEOPLE reports that the mast broke like a wooden match, and part of the cabin was damaged.
As for the whale, he did leave behind some barnacles and fat, but the absence of blood leaves observers expect that this technique did not suffer serious injury.
After reading about this, a thought came to mind: Why did not the boat was full of Nissho Maru captain and fishing buddies?
There seems to be a real video that shows the whale jumps and lands on the boat, but you can see some pictures and videos related to “boat hits whale photo below. What are your thoughts?
