West Hollywood Fur Effect September 21, 2013

West Hollywood Fur Effect September 21, 2013, Animal rights activists have won a huge victory in West Hollywood. They have been given final approval of the first city in the nation to ban the sale of fur. That means all fur clothing selling within city limits will be illegal.

Reuters reported, “The five-member City Council of the tiny, tony municipality wedged between Beverly Hills and Hollywood voted 3-1 with one abstention early on Tuesday to approve the ordinance, said City Councilman John Heilman, who voted no.”

Not everyone is very happy about this new fur law. The Fur Information Council of America is based in West Hollywood and have been in stiff opposition of this new ruling.

Close to 100 apparel stores sell fur items in West Hollywood.

The measure will take effect on Sept. 21, 2013 so that city officials could conduct studies on how the ordinance will affect businesses.

Fur is not illegal to sell in any other place in America and it has been an original trading commodity for centuries. Should the council be imposing a moral compass and possibly be allowed to destroy businesses profit? Will they ban meat next?
