That’s the message advocates and experts suggest that cities must clean pipes distribute crack crack cocaine.
The aim is to prevent the spread of diseases like HIV and hepatitis. Andrew Ivsins, a researcher at the University of Victoria, says people are now free of the mouthparts, but are difficult to remove, thus resulting in crack pipes can be more effective.
“People just do not stop taking the microphone off and share that way, with the mouthpiece, or not to tip anyway, and just sharing the pipe,” he explains.
Vancouver Health Authority will start a pilot project later this year to distribute glass pipes in the same city that houses only safe injection site in North America. Vancouver Coastal Health Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Patricia Daly says that the real purpose of the program is that addicts have more interaction with health workers.
“I think one of the really positive things we found is real engagement strategy,” she says. “Many of these people were not involved in treatment to all, and we were able to enter drug treatment to make them participate in other health services, either from vaccination or other things.”
Lawyers and experts say that crack pipes should be a standard tool in all provinces and strategies of the municipality of drugs.
