UTEP, 2010 BYU Cougars made their last large-scale practice of the season today in the pouring rain in a high school football stadium on the east side of Albuquerque.
Then in a quick interview in the rain, coach Bronco Mendenhall said the team is ready, and that Thursday’s practice was much better than the Wednesday after the Cougars had just arrived in town.
“Really looking forward,” Mendenhall was descripteion players right now. “And I think they feel well prepared to this point. Type arrival here and all the newness of bowl week. … They have fun, they are appreciated, but as the game gets, the more it is a kind of passage “we came here to play a game.” And so much energy and enthusiasm, especially because they wanted to stir it around and out of the cold. But I think it went well. ”
Mendenhall said the wet weather actually helped the team level of high energy.
UTEP is a lawyer in the field of practice in New Mexico, but the workouts were closed in what team officials called “the media BYU.”
I’m not complaining, though. UTEP media relations officials bent over backwards to get an interview face-to-head with Coach Mike Price, and you can read this profile in the newspaper on Friday. BYU practices are technically closed to everyone, but there have been available to the media after every practice here for everyone. Even the “media UTEP.”
I also wrote some of Mitch Payne, BYU senior kicker. Due to space limitations, I have not been able to get in the comments on the contribution of Payne Mendenhall program.
Mitch Payne on this has meant to the program:
“Just consistency. He had a great career here and is totally reliable, and [had] big shoes to fill. But I am never afraid when he went there at once he would not do a good job, and he will be prepared. And so that’s one less thing a head coach must be concerned with a reliable kicker, “said Mendenhall.
h have been achieved so little the Cougars were able to practice between their match of the regular season and now last, partly due to having to play in first bowl game of the season, and because c ‘ is the final week.
Mendenhall score, now it’s over:
“I think it has gone very well. Harder this year especially with finals, to get our full team [and] the last days before arriving here. So I felt a little more urgency to meet a little longer while we “re here to move closer to football, because the final.
The last four days, really, have tried to balance and work practice around finals without a full team here. So we had to [have] little more meetings, trying to catch up. “
