US Postal Service Holidays

January 2, 2012 by staff

US Postal Service Holidays, Wondering if the post office is open or closed the day after New Year’s Day 2012, Martin Luther King Day, or President’s Day? The list of ten (10) 2012 Post Office Holidays was stated and released on the website that Rhode Island residents and employees will need to know. According to The New York Times, there is no regular postal service on Monday, January 2, 2012. Because the day after New Year’s Day is also a federal holiday, all post offices in the Providence, Rhode Island area are closed on Monday, January 2nd as well.

Thankfully, the United States Postal Service has dates and information for 2012 that is helpful to know regarding post office holidays.

No Mail Delivery in Rhode Island on Postal Holidays

Depending on your job and employer, many people, including Rhode Islanders, have these federal and state holidays off. It can get confusing depending on which state you live in, and whether or not you’re adding public holidays on the list as well. For example, many retail employees have to work on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, and Columbus Day.

If you happen to be one of the lucky employees, you’ll have all 10 federal holidays off just like the post offices in the Providence, Rhode Island area. Either way, the United States Postal Service is closed, and there is no mail delivery on the following holidays.

This includes not only mail delivery to your Rhode Island residence or business, but also local post office lobby hours as well. Rhode Islanders will have to wait until the next business day to conduct postal business when Providence area post offices reopen again.
