Sgt Nigel Coupe, 33, was on secondment to the regiment from 1st Battalion, the Duke of Lancaster’s regiment.
They died in the worst loss of life in a single incident in Afghanistan since 2006, when an RAF Nimrod crashed, killing 14 people.
Today at Brize Norton friends and family gathered for a special service at a newly built Repatriation centre.
A cortège of six caskets then made its way to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford via a special memorial garden.
The garden was created along the route as a focal point for people to pay their respects. Funds have been raised to erect a memorial bell at the site on the edge of Carterton a couple of miles from the base.
In some ways it will emulate the Church bell tolled during previous repatriations through Royal Wootton Bassett.
At the memorial garden hundreds of people joined family and friends. Tears were shed as people threw flowers onto the vehicles.
Many family members donned t-shirts. On said ‘a hero and a son”.
