Two Week Old Girl Rescued Two Days After Turkey Earthquake, Rescuers pulled a girl two weeks of age with life in the arms of her mother, who had also survived, but was still trapped in the rubble of her apartment on Tuesday, two days after a powerful earthquake in southeast Turkey .

The mother was holding the baby against her chest when rescuers reached them, and were working to remove it, as well as a grandmother, who was also still alive.

“I’m so excited. What I can say. May God help you,” said the other boy’s grandmother, Sevim Yigit, Reuters, eyes filled with tears of joy beneath her headscarf.

As he spoke, a lifeguard leaned forward to reassure her: “We’re going out soon.”

There was no information about the father, who had also been in the building when he fell.

The grandmother said the girl, named Azra, was born two weeks ago.

The large crowd gathered at the place came rescuers cheered when cradling a baby in his arms. Family relieved went ahead as she was carried to an ambulance.

“We’ve been waiting for almost 48 hours,” said a teenage cousin, whose mother was gone. “I hope my mother and aunt were also rescued.”

The family had been trapped since the apartment building, several floors collapsed when the 7.2 magnitude earthquake stuck early Sunday afternoon.
