Twitter 140 Character Limit

Twitter 140 Character Limit, Twitter Inc. will keep the character limit for tweets to 140, Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey said on the Today Show Friday, putting an end to speculation that the company could extend the limit to as many as 10,000 characters.
“It’s staying,” Dorsey said. “It’s a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity.”
In January, Twitter was said to be considering raising the character limit for tweets to as much as 10,000, according to a person familiar with the matter. Dorsey has been pushing the company to make the service more engaging to attract new users, but the rumor set off a Tweet-storm of criticism.
Twitter removed the 140-character limit for direct private messages between users in August last year.
