TTC Crash, Police suspect driver error can cause a collision between two buses TTC sent 14 people to the hospital on Friday afternoon. The buses were carrying a total of 31 people when it crashed in a tunnel near Wilson Avenue and Wilson Boulevard Heights at 11 am
Injured passengers and one bus driver were taken to two hospitals with cuts, bruises and pain in the neck and back, said Const. Hugh Smith. He said it appears that one of the vehicles had trouble making a sharp turn, but both coaches will be inspected to see if there was a mechanical problem in relation to the accident. “When one sees the crash … it’s just a shift of one or two feet, but it is a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Smith said Friday. The incident left the buses damaged, with broken windows and bent fenders. The speed limit in the area is 20 mph. Smith said it appeared both buses were observing the speed limit, but that serious injury can still occur at such speeds.
The accident is being investigated internally by the TTC, since it occurred on private property, however the police and the Ontario Ministry of Labour are also looking into the accident.
