‘Transformers 3′ & Box Office

'Transformers 3' & Box Office‘Transformers 3′ & Box Office, Good and bad news to report this weekend. Transformers: Dark of the Moon has won the coveted highest grossing opening weekend of the year honor, beating the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Part II Hangover. The capper of the intellectual drain Transformers saga got a respectable 97.4 million from Friday to Sunday. Not bad, but his predecessor, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and makes 108 million two years ago. And to achieve that, without penalty ticket 3D. Abroad, the last of the series is strong performance and the addition of another 210 million in total. It was a record, so, enough to be the opening of the third best July ever. As to whether or not to pull the plug on 3-D release, 71% of revenues came from ticket sales in 3-D.

So what does this mean? Not a hell of a lot. Dark of the Moon would make money regardless. Revenge of the Fallen sucked something awful, but it did and 836 million worldwide. Will cause your legs to overcome the national income of the first film (and 319 million)? It could, but their numbers overseas income will determine if you can push beyond the billions. By Monday the closure of its overall total could be as high as and 405 million. Almost half way to the landmark and is just the first weekend!

The same weekend that adolescents attending sockem Rockem-robot p**n, AARP crowd went to see Larry Crowne. It was a safer choice. They like Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, so to see them together in a comedy was selected in the obvious. However, marketing was boring. The presence of stars on one side, they would pay for a movie about a man who loses his job and take a public speaking class at a local college? Add to that, the guy is a regular square. Do not drink or have skeletons in their closet. But he does drive a moped. Tom Hanks was the main selling point, but you have to wonder how he would have gone if you’ve played with the power of the stars. A meeting of Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts, perhaps? Or keep Tom Hanks and a couple of them with Angela Bassett. They have the audience a little. Crowne Larry finished the weekend with a disappointing and 13 million. Expect to see this become commonplace in the Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day DVD for sale promotions.

Last week’s number one and two had to settle for silver and bronze. Cars 2 are the twelfth consecutive Pixar to make it past the mark and $ 100 million. Given the way that dropped the first 62% of weekends and secondly, they may have difficulty in exceeding the original Toy Story and 191 million gross. In general, you should still do well, if we consider the performance abroad and merchandising (where the real money is in the film).

As much as I liked Bad Teacher as a comedy, I’m glad the director Jake Kasdan. Son of Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote and directed The Big Chill and co-wrote Empires Strike Back, Jake finally got a hit comedy itself. Good for him. Having directed the Orange County, the little seen The TV Set, and musical spoof Walk Hard overlooked: The Dewey Cox story, was due to a stroke. With 88 million in general against a production cost and 20 million, to be so bad I knew so well paid?

Placing fifth was the third new version of the weekend, Monte Carlo Selena Gomez-starring comedy definitely plays the girl and brings the crowd Tweener and 7.6 million.

In an interesting twist, this weekend saw Super 8 perform better than Green Lantern. Despite the larger budget of the lantern and the marketing looks like JJ Abrams ode to Spielberg to make. However, Warner Bros. has committed to make a sequel to Green Lantern, but know they have to be disappointed, knowing that a film of 50 million without premium 3D will make more money than its start in the franchise.

Turning to Jim Carrey and infestation of penguins, take a look at the bridesmaids and the records that made this past weekend. Still in the top ten after being in theaters for two months. At 152.9 million and exceeded Sex and the City to be the new number one R-rated comedy female (thank goodness, now I can sleep well at night). Knocked also beat to become the most successful comedy Judd Apatow. Midnight in Paris ended in tenth position. The comedy has grossed 33.6 million and after seven weeks and is only 7 million away from becoming the best Woody Allen film, performing all the time.

If you still care about numbers after all that, here’s one more log for you. Pirates of the Caribbean: At foreign shores and crossed the one billion mark. Total overseas account for the bulk of their earnings, more than any other movie that has a billion or more. Yes, even through points, On Stranger Tides relied more on foreign Avatar gross income.

1. Transformers: If we had a script – and 97.4 million (and 372 million worldwide)
2. Cars 2 – and 25.1 million (and $ 116 million)
3. Bad Santa impostor – and 14.1 million (and $ 60 million)
4. Tom Hanks gives a pretty woman walking moped – and 13 million
5. Monte Carlo – and 7.6 million
6. Super 8 – and 7.5 million (+ 108 million)
7. Green Lantern not does much – and 6.3 million (and $ 102 million)
8. Mr. Popper’s Penguins illegal – and 5.1 million (and $ 50 million)
9. The bridesmaids and the city – and 3.5 million (and $ 153 million)
10. Midnight in Paris – and 3.4 million (and 34 mill.)
