Tiger Mickelson Pebble, Three-time winner Phil Mickelson surged to the lead with three birdies and an eagle on the first six holes in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Sunday as playing partner Tiger Woods struggled to keep pace.
Mickelson narrowly missed an eagle putt on the second hole, but holed an easy birdie to start his climb to the top spot. He rolled in a downhill 15-footer for birdie at the fourth hole, nearly holed his tee shot on the par-3 and tapped from less than two feet to move into a tie for the lead with Kevin Na and third-round leader Charlie Wi..
Mickelson then took sole possession of first place by two strokes when he reached the par-5 sixth hole in two shots and sank a 25-foot putt from the front edge of the green.
Woods was part of a three-way tie for third with Na and Wi after he birdied the sixth, but he struggled with his putter early on and opened his final round with five straight pars. He three-putted the par-3 seventh to fall three shots behind Mickelson, who parred the hole.
Wi four-putted the first hole for a double bogey to immediately tighten up the final-round leader board in the early going. Wi, who played a bogey-free round at Spyglass Hill on Saturday to enter the final round with a three-shot lead over final-round playing partner Ken Duke, opened the door for a whole host of players with his double, including Mickelson and Woods..
