The ShiningThe Shining, On Saturday, nearly 40,000 scouts gathered in the Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Virginia, will be joined by thousands of people across the country through satellite feed, including many of the area.

The Old Hickory Council, which serves eight counties including Surry, is organizing a bright light at BB & T Ballpark, the new home of the dash of Winston-Salem, afternoon and night. The event will include a live satellite from the Hall of the Centennial Celebration at the National Jamboree in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

The National Jamboree began yesterday and lasts about 10 days. Notes for scouts from all over the country and even around the world to participate in activities, win prizes and meet each other. However, not all browsers are able to make the trip. Because this is the 100th anniversary of the exploration program in America, the national council wanted all scouts to participate in the celebration event.

“I have understood that it is a way to participate in the National Jamboree,” said Ken Badgett, historian of the Old Hickory Council. “It’s a chance to meet scouts in this part of the state, too.”

“It is for all scouts in the area of the eight counties of the Board of Old Hickory. I think we have some from outside the area well,” said Fred Patterson, director of District Council Old Hickory. “It is for all scouts, their families and the general public. It is a good way of linking the Jumbotron to participate if they could not go. I think it will be a great event.”

Gates for the event open at 3 pm with an afternoon full of activities for people of all ages. The board of Children’s Zone was created for children. For adults, the North Carolina Highway Patrol will have the golf cart DWI Challenge created and the Sheriff’s Office Forsyth County have the mobile unit 911 in the scene. There will also be a number of vendors and exhibits.

None of the above, a bluegrass band Surry County, will perform at 5 pm prior to the opening ceremony at 6 pm A sky diver will enter the stadium and Virginia Foxx will present a flag that was hoisted on the building the nation’s Capitol. All scouts will have the opportunity to participate in the parade of explorers from where they will be able to enter the stage of the unit with the flag of his troops.

Beginning at 8 pm, the satellite signal from the National Jamboree will begin on the stadium Jumbotron with special events, celebrity guests and a salute to the exploration. After the show, there will be a candle lighting ceremony and rededication at 9:30 pm The scouts in attendance will glow sticks and was asked to turn on the lights are dimmed for a presentation. There will be a fireworks finale at 21:45

In addition, the Old Hickory Council recognize the 12 people nominated for the board hundredth anniversary of BSA National Leadership Hall. The winner of the 12 that were installed will also be appointed at night.

The National Leadership Hall was created as part of the 100th anniversary celebration in collecting and sharing stories exploring the effects of leadership on communities. Every person was able to recognize outstanding leadership by an explorer, social leader or exploration of volunteers during the nomination period. Nationwide, more than 7,000 people were nominated. All stories candidate will be included in the archive BSA 100th anniversary at the National Museum of Scouting, but only one person in each council will be included in the National Hall of Leadership.

Tickets for the event are Shining light and 7 children 5 and younger get in free. They can be purchased through the site of Old Hickory Council Web. About 1,000 people have already registered to participate and organizers expect many more in the coming days. The stadium will seat around 5,000 people.

“It’s in the new stadium as an opportunity for people to go out and see it. There will be many activities. There is a concert of one hour should be fun and people get to see some fireworks,” said Badgett . “It should be a fun evening.”
