According to The Washington Post, Warner Bros. confirmed that director Todd Phillips will get the opportunity to finish The Hangover saga with a third film that will open on May 24, 2013. Stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will all return. Ken Jeong was not mentioned in the announcement, so it remains to be seen if he will return.

In the announcement, Phillips promised that it will be the last film in the highly successful series of raunchy, R-rated comedies, reports The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re going to surprise a lot of people with the final chapter we have planned. It will be a fitting conclusion to our three-part opera of mayhem, despair and bad decisions,” he said.

Phillips will co-write the screenplay with Craig Mazin, who he worked with on The Hangover Part II.

The success of the first Hangover film, which was released in 2009, completely caught Warner Bros. by surprise. Despite only one established star, Cooper, the film made $467.5 million worldwide. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. didn’t even make sure they had the stars signed on for a sequel and paid dearly. However, it was worth it, since 2011′s Part II made $581.5 million worldwide.
