The Boy is Mine

The Boy is Mine:If you’re like us, as soon as “Glee” is over you hit iTunes to snatch up all the songs you’ve just heard. Here’s your chance to sing along!

We’ve got all the lyrics right here – and while you’re waiting for your downloads, don’t miss the music videos to hear what the songs sounded like before Mr. Schue assigned them to the New Directions kids.

The May 11 episode, “Laryngitis,” started with a whimper, not a bang, when Rachel completely butchered “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. Finn swooned over her at the doctor’s office while Jesse was on spring break with his Vocal Adrenaline pals – prompting the inevitable “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield.

Rachel’s laryngitis and ear infection put her out of commission for a few days, giving the rest of the kids a chance to shine. Puck hasn’t had a good solo since “Sweet Caroline,” but he blew us away with Sammy Davis Jr.’s “The Lady is a Tramp” – and Mercedes was impressed, too! She and Santana fought over Puck in song with “The Boy is Mine” by Brandy and Monica.

Meanwhile, Kurt was having a bit of an identity crisis. Trying to be a little more butch to impress his dad, Kurt dressed up in flannel and work boots, spoke in a gruff voice, and… made out with Brittany, who totally digs the taste of her own armpits. (No, seriously.) He tried to relate to his father with John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses,” but really found his voice in “Rose’s Turn” from “Gypsy, A Musical Fable.”

The coda was “One” by U2, which included Rachel giving Finn’s paralyzed friend, played by guest star Zach Weinstein, a chance to shine.

“The Climb” by Miley Cyrus

I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming but
There’s a voice inside my head sayin,
You’ll never reach it,
Every step I’m taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep tryin’
Got to keep my head held high

Chorus: There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

The struggles I’m facing,
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes they might knock me down but
No I’m not breaking, I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

“Jesse’s Girl” by Rick Springfield

Jessie is a friend, yeah, I know he’s been a good friend of mine
But lately something’s changed that ain’t hard to define
Jessie’s got himself a girl and I want to make her mine

And she’s watching him with those eyes
And she’s lovin’ him with that body, I just know it
Yeah ‘n’ he’s holding her in his arms late, late at night

Chorus: You know, I wish that I had Jessie’s girl
I wish that I had Jessie’s girl
Where can I find a woman like that

I play along with the charade, there doesn’t seem to be a reason to change
You know, I feel so dirty when they start talking cute
I wanna tell her that I love her, but the point is rather moot

‘Cos she’s watching him with those eyes
And she’s lovin’ him with that body, I just know it
And he’s holding her in his arms late, late at night

Like Jessie’s girl, I wish that I had Jessie’s girl
Where can I find a woman
Where can I find a woman like that

And I’m lookin’ in the mirror all the time, wondering what she don’t see in me
I’ve been funny, I’ve been cool with the lines
Ain’t that the way love’s supposed to be

“The Lady is a Tramp” by Sammy Davis Jr.

She gets too hungry, for dinner at eight
She likes the theater, and never comes late
She’d never bother, with people she’d hate
That’s why the lady is a tramp

Doesn’t like crap games, with barons or earls
Won’t go to Harlem, in ermine and pearls
Won’t dish the dirt, with the rest of the girls
That’s why the lady is a tramp

She likes the free, free fresh wind in her hair
Life without care
She’s broke, but it’s oke
She hates California, it’s cold and it’s damp
That’s why the lady is a tramp

She gets far too hungry, to eat for dinner at eight
She adores the theater, and she doesn’t arrives late
She’d never bother, with people she’d hate
That’s why the lady is a tramp

Won’t have a dice game, with any barons or earls
She will never go to Harlem, dessed in ermine and pearls
And she won’t dish the dirt, with all the other girls
That is why the lady is a tramp

“Pink Houses” by John Cougar Mellencamp

There’s a black man with a black cat
Livin’ in a black neighborhood
He’s got an interstate runnin’ through his front yard
You know he thinks that he’s got it so good

And there’s a woman in the kitchen
Cleanin’ up the evenin’ slop
And he looks at her and says, “Hey darlin’
I can remember when you could stop a clock”

Chorus: Oh, but ain’t that America, for you and me
Ain’t that America, we’re somethin’ to see, baby
Ain’t that America, the home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

There’s a young man in a T-shirt
Listenin’ to a rockin’ rollin’ station
He’s got greasy hair, greasy smile
He says, “Lord this must be my destination”

‘Cause they told me when I was younger
“Boy you’re gonna be President”
But just like everything else those old crazy dreams
Kinda came and went

Well there’s people and more people
What do they know know know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico, ooh yeah

And there’s winners and there’s losers
But that ain’t no big deal
‘Cause the simple man baby pays for the thrills
The bills, the pills that kill

The Boy is Mine” by Brandy and Monica

You need to give it up
Had about enough
It’s not hard to see
The boy is mine

I think it’s time we got this straight
Let’s sit and talk face to face
There is no way you could mistake him for your man
Are you insane?

See I know that you may be
Just a bit jealous of me
Cos you’re blind if you can’t see
That his love is all in me

See I tried to hesitate
I didn’t want to say what he told me
He said without me
He couldn’t make it through the day
Ain’t that a shame

And maybe you misunderstood
Plus I can’t see how he could
Wanna take his time and that’s all good
All of my love was all it took

Chorus: You need to give it up
Had about enough
It’s not hard to see
The boy is mine
I’m sorry that you seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine

Must you do the things you do
Keep on acting like a fool
You need to know it’s me not you
And if you didn’t know it, girl it’s true

I think that you should realize
And try to understand why
He is a part of my life
I know it’s killing you inside

You can say what you wanna say
What we have you can’t take
From the truth you can’t escape
I can tell the real from the fake

When will you get the picture
You’re the past, I’m the future
Get away it’s my time to shine
If you didn’t know the boy is mine

You can’t destroy this love I’ve found
Your silly games I won’t allow
The boy is mine without a doubt
You might as well throw in the towel

What makes you think that he wants you
When I’m the one that brought him to
The special place that’s in my heart
He was my love right from the start

“Rose’s Turn” from “Gypsy, A Musical Fable”

Some people got it and make it pay
Some people can’t even give it away
This people’s got it and this people’s spreading it around
You either have it or you’ve had it

Hello everybody, my name’s Rose, what’s yours?
How do you like them egg rolls Mr. Goldstone?
Hold your hats and hallelujah
Mama’s gonna show it to you

Ready or not, here comes mama
Mama’s talking loud, mama’s doing fine
Mama’s getting hot, mama’s going stong
Mama’s moving on, mama’s all alone

Mama doesn’t care, mama’s letting loose
Mama’s got the stuff, mama’s let go, mama, mama
Mama’s got the stuff, mama’s gotta move
Mama’s gotta go, mama, mama, mama’s gotta let go

Why did I do it? What did it get me?
Scrapbooks full of me in the background
Give ‘em love and what does it get you?
What does it get you?

One quick look as each of ‘em leaves you
All your life and what does it get you?
Thanks a lot and out with the garbage
They take bows and you’re batting zero

I had a dream, I dreamed it for you June
It wasn’t for me, Herbie
And if it wasn’t for me then where would you be
Miss Gypsy Rose Lee?

Well, someone tell me, when is it my turn?
Don’t I get a dream for myself?
Starting now it’s gonna be my turn

Gangway world get off of my runway
Starting now I bat a thousand
This time boys I’m taking the bows and

Everything’s coming up Rose
Everything’s coming up roses for me.

“One” by U2

Is it getting better or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now you got someone to blame
You say…

One love, one life
When it’s one need in the night
One love, we get to share it
Leaves you baby if you don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love and you want me to go without
Well it’s…

Too late tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We’re one, but we’re not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it’s all I got
We’re one, but we’re not the same
Well we hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say love is a temple, love a higher law
Love is a temple, love the higher law

You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on to what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love, one blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other, sisters, brothers
One life
But we’re not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
