Tamu, Turnovers. Turnovers. Turnovers. That’s all there. TAMU defense is not bad (it is actually quite good) and crime is not bad (16 th in the nation in total offense), but the turnovers. The correlation between turnover and margin of victory and defeat is not a novel idea on my part, but it is true for the Aggies. The TAMU 4 wins, the Aggies are still, 9 turnovers gained and lost 9 balls. In the 3 losses TAMU, the Aggies only have 5 turnovers and won 9 turnovers. The worst performance Aggies turnover margin was a victory, -4 against Florida International (27-20 victory), but when the offense turns the ball over the ages 4 and 5 is at your defense in a difficult position. The Aggies have improved, especially in the last two games the Aggies did not have a turnover against Missouri or Kansas.
Everyone is talking about the quarterback decision, and as Tuberville, I think we will see both Jerry Johnson and Ryan Tannehill. I always like Tannehill as an athlete and I never understood why not see the field more. Johnson has to do a better job of managing the game, and although I do not think you can set any loss of Johnson (there were three turnovers against Arkansas), the inconsistency of Johnson has been a big problem. Perhaps the presence Tannehill simply means that Johnson has to make to keep their concert. Either guy is talented players to throw the ball to, and the best receiver on the team and perhaps the best receiver in the NFL future is Jeff Fuller (as it seems that Justin Blackmon OSU has a problem with drinking and driving .) Complete with 44 catches, 687 yards and 9 touchdowns, nearly 100 yards per game. I always thought Uzoma Nwachukwu was the second best receiver of Aggie and it was amazing for me to see Ryan Swope was actually second on the team with 42 catches, 414 yards and 2 touchdowns. Obviously, Fuller is the best receiver on the team more explosive.
I’ve always liked both Michael and Christine Gray Cyrus and anyone can beat a defense. Michael has been the best driver this year, averaging 84 yards per game and four touchdowns, while Gray is averaging 44 yards per game and three touchdowns. And if you can limit the running game for the Aggies then your chances of winning are much better. TAMU averages 210 yards per game in his victories and only 98 yards per game in losses, while it does not matter if you stop the way against the Aggies averaged 296 yards per game in wins and 314 yards per game in losses.
Aggie offensive line is young and maligned a little. LT Lucas Joeckel is a true freshman, while RG Lewis and Brian Patrick Thomas RT are sophomores. Evan Eike LG is a solitary young man, while the senior is C Matt Allen. The ground offensive is the best 49 in the country at 162.29 ypg, but this line (and I’m sure Johnson is part of the blame too) is allowing 3.57 sacks a game, which is 113 in the country . And the line is not significantly worse in victories (3.00) or losses (4.33).
WR Jarvis Phillips CB vs Jeff Fuller
I can not imagine D.J. Johnson will get the nod against Fuller and Texas Tech’s defense needs its best cornerback Fuller. Last week, Tuberville Phillips gave the defensive player of the game after his performance against Colorado and wonder if it was intended to give a little life to Phillips. Texas Tech’s defense spending, as mentioned above, has been terrible and Fuller is a true talent that can get behind the defense and is a physical receiver. Phillips better bring his best game this week, I think it will have our hands full.
He mentioned that the Aggies win games when they can run the ball and it is interesting that Dewhurst is getting the start over Howard. I have to think that DC Willis seen the tape of last year kicking back and maybe the plan is to have a tall, thin player, and Dewhurst, which is probably faster than anything can shade Howard Johnson and Tannehill. Of course, Dewhurst gives up 50 pounds to 20 pounds to Johnson and Tannehill and most of the time, Dewhurst is not going to stop Johnson and Tannehill one-on-one, but if the idea is that Dewhurst can achieve success Johnson (the team of the 3 rd leading rusher), giving the defense the opportunity to make a collective work, then maybe this could work. Dewhurst is very active and I thought Howard would be that type of player for Texas Tech this year, but obviously, the staff feels different.
