Wham 13, Four sections of brass railings were removed from the building of the Monroe County Office in mid-November according to county officials. Another incident ended with other missing sections, including railings in front of the building.
The railing had been there since 1896 by county.

The damage and cost about 10,000 to fix according to Pieter Smeenk, supervisor of building maintenance.

Workers downtown who spoke with 13 WHAM News were troubled by the sight of such damages.

“I think it’s disgusting, it’s like an old building, and there is much history in this building
And anything metal, brass goes to the building, “said Michael Berry, who works for a company near abstract.

“There are many police in downtown I’m surprised that nobody actually saw that happening,” said Myers Grazina who works nearby.

Some of these metals were recovered and county officials say they intend to replace the grills with original equipment.

In November, scrap yards have been buying yellow brass for about 1.30-$ 1.90 per pound according to Bruce Gelletly, a buyer for metálico Rochester.
