World Golf Rankings, It was Lee Westwood who topped the rankings then and he kept the position until February 27, 2011 when he was replaced by Germany’s Martin Kaymer.

Kaymer stayed there for just two months before Westwood moved back ahead for just one month when fellow Englishman Luke Donald took the top spot.

Donald remained number one until Sunday when McIlroy became the first Irishman to top the rankings.

Tiger Woods meanwhile moved back into the world top 20 on the back of his tie for second place in the Honda Classic.
