Woody Woodpecker

Woody Woodpecker, Woody Woodpecker may be returning to the big screen in a planned revival by Universal Pictures, Heat Vision reports.

The studio purchased the rights to the character, as well as his back catalog, in 1985, and hopes the rambunctious redhead will have new life, courtesy of in-house animation studio Illumination Entertainment, which produced Despicable Me.

John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky are in talks to write the script. The duo has worked on projects like the Will Ferrell and Jon Heder comedy Blades of Glory as well as the recent Beavis and Butt-head comeback for MTV. It’s interesting that Universal is going after a pair of writers with a more offbeat sense of humor.
