Willow Smith Bald

February 7, 2012 by · Comments Off on Willow Smith Bald

Willow Smith Bald, Willow Smith became an Internet sensation when a video of her singing while whipping around her hair went viral on YouTube.

The funky song “Whip My Hair” became so popular that Sesame Street created a parody called “I Love My Hair,” which celebrates African-American hair and encourages black children to embrace their beautiful locks

Now, Willow’s hair is all gone.

The 11-year-old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith shaved her head and then posted a photo of her bold new look on her WhoSay page last week.

Why did she chop off her locks? Was it an act of self-expression, a way to raise awareness about a cause, or an attention-getting ploy?

The budding pop star has yet to explain why. Maybe it was a style choice. After all, the look that Sinead O’Connor made popular in the 80s and 90s seems to be coming back. Cynthia Nixon went bald last week, although she has a good reason for ditching her fiery locks. She’s starring as a cancer patient on Broadway.

A shaved head is one thing for a 46-year-old woman. Is it an appropriate look for a tween girl?

The reactions in the Internet world are mixed. Over at Cafe Mom, blogger Jacqueline Burt shares: “Parents shouldn’t mess with a kid’s developing personal identity.”

A reader named Megan responds: “At 11 years old? I know you said parents ‘shouldn’t mess with kid’s developing personal identity’ but the reality is that young children look to their parents to help define their identity and want guidance in growing into who they are. There has to be a balance so that they are A) growing into who they are and B.) getting wise direction they need to become solid in who they are.”
