Happiest States:The happiest states in America may be hard to measure, since few Americans are happy right now. But the happiest states in America have people that can enjoy themselves anyway, and they fall in one specific reason. According to a study from the
Science Daily magazine, the happiest states
Happiest States in America Are Southern Red States
in America seem to be ones from the South. Most surprising of all may be the state ranked number 1 – Louisiana, of all places.

The study does make sure to mention that some data came before Hurricane Katrina, which may make the entire poll a bit suspect. In 2005, before Katrina came along, the nation wasn’t in the largely depressing state it is in now. But the Science Daily study points out that other factors can contribute to happiness.

The happiest states in America have high quality of life and are sunny, according to researchers Professor Andrew Oswald and Stephen Wu. They took a sample of 1.3 million U.S. citizens, spread out across the 50 states and the District of Columbia. From what they found, Louisiana has the best quality-of-life, and therefore makes its citizens more likely to be happy.

Their data factors in weather, crimes, taxes, air quality, coastal land, cost of living, and other such things that can make one happy or sad about life. Even though ranking Louisiana No. 1 may be questionable, the rest of the list may reflect a deeper regional pattern of happiness.

The other happiest states in America are Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee, Arizona, Mississippi, Montana, South Carolina, Alabama and Maine. Only one of these is a northern state, and the majority of the top 10 are Southern states with great weather. In contrast, bigger states like California, Pennsylvania and Michigan rank near the bottom – with New York state finishing dead last.
